We finally meet other wolves. This book is interesting because you finally get a sense of how other wolves and packs are run. While Bran has created the ultimate hierarchy in the US we see that Europe is more factions. We also get to meet another omega! He is new, but at least Anna doesn't feel so alone.
As the wolves gather to address Bran's plans to show his pack to the world we find out how ruthless some alpha's can be. We also learn just how dangerous old wolves can be.
Overall I like the story and I really enjoy seeing Anna embrace more of her alpha side and really embrace that being an Omega doesn't mean being a door mat. I feel like these stories tend to focus more on the characters and personal development than the plot. I don't know if that is how Briggs intended it, but you really get a unique sense of the characters as individuals in this series. The plot is good, but seemingly secondary, more as a tool to help you learn more about Charles and Anna.

I love this author. The Mercy Thompson series is great and this series is loosely tied to that one. Werewolves we know as dominant and submissive, but there is another designation - Omega. Anna is an Omega wolf and she is mated to Bran's son Charles, the enforcer for the Marrok. Omega's are dominant wolves that don't fight for positions in the pack. They are protected by the pack whether it's necessary or not. And Omega's bring calm and serenity. In this story Bran is going to bring the American werewolves out of hiding. There are meetings in Seattle with the European Alphas to offer them his help when they are outed by Bran's announcement. Charles is representing Bran at the meetings because he expected Bran to be in terrible danger. While in Seattle Anna is attacked by vampires. The rest of the story deals with the attack, who planned it, why there was magic involved when vampires are not magic users. Very good book, as was the 1st in the series. Book 3, I'm on my way.
I read this amazing adventure for the first time just after it was published, but like all of Patricia Briggs' series, I simply have to read it again. Just as Mercy and Adam call out to me, so do Charles and Anna. As soon as they meet, Charles' "Brother Wolf" claims Anna and her wolf as his own. "Two spirits in one body" says it all. And these tales have it all a tender love story that will melt your heart, an exciting adventure that keeps you flipping pages 'til the end, and characters who pop off the pages to become old friends and fascinating enemies. They all leave me smiling and very satisfied with a tale well told. Start with the short novella, Alpha & Omega, which gives you enough backstory to suck you in - er...let you decide if it's your sort of novel. Good luck!

This is the second book in the Alpha & Omega series. If you're trying to read the Mercyverse is linear order (novels only) it goes Moon Called (Mercy 1), Cry Wolf (A&O 1), Hunting Ground (A&O 2), then Blood Bound (Mercy 2). It can be a bit confusing since they don't alternate or something that would be predictable.

This book takes place shortly after the events in Cry Wolf conclude. In this book Charles (Bran's son) and Charles' new mate, Anna, are sent to Seattle to play werewolf politics. There's supposed to be a summit to discuss the werewolves "going public" which is to be moderated by a Fae who has agreed to be the moderator for a price.

Interesting secondary characters abound in this book, from members of the Seattle pack, including a blind witch, the European werewolves (especially the Alphas from England and France), and the others involved in the summit.

I didn't love this one quite as much as Cry Wolf, but I still enjoyed the read and will continue with the series. I look forward to seeing Charles and Anna continue to develop - my favorite parts of this book were definitely the more romance-heavy aspects of their plot as they continue to work on the human side of their relationship.

I was intrigued enough by their backstory after reading this book to seek out Shifting Shadows, which contains the novella of how they met (Alpha & Omega). If you want to read chronologically you should look up the timeline, but you'll want to start with some of the stories in Shifting Shadows.
